In order to promote the public policy recommendations included in the Women’s Legislative Agenda, the Alliance for the Economic Empowerment of Women in the Republic of Moldova launched and organized advocacy campaigns. One of these campaigns focused on promoting legislative changes to support the business sector to create alternative childcare services. This advocacy campaign was implemented by the Association of Business and Professional Women from Moldova (BPW Moldova) and NGO Vesta, both members of the Alliance.
BPW Moldova and NGO Vesta, on behalf of the Alliance, planned and organized three round tables to discuss with decision-makers the importance of adopting legislation on promoting incentives related to early childhood education and to inform the business sector about the benefits they can get from creating alternative childcare services.
The first round table took place on December 12, 2022 in Comrat. The event was attended by 21 people, including the President of the Comrat district, the mayor of the Comrat municipality, the representative of the Territorial Information Office of the Parliament, representatives of the Labor Inspectorate, the Territorial Office for Employment and the Office of the People’s Advocate, civil society and the business sector.
The second round table took place on December 14, 2022 in Chisinau. The event was attended by 24 people, including representatives of the Parliament, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Economic Council to Prime Minister, the Ombudsperson Office, UNFPA and UN Women, representatives of trade union federations, the business sector and civil society.
The third round table took place on December 15, 2022 in Sangerei. This was organized in partnership with the Sângerei Business Incubator, with the participation of 40 people, including the president of the Sângerei district, the mayor of Sangerei, representatives of local public institutions, the business sector and civil society.
During the three round tables, participants discussed the Women’s Legislative Agenda, the need to create alternative childcare services and the benefits for the business sector, the provisions of the draft law no. 389 on the creation of alternative childcare services and examples of private enterprises that have already launched certain alternative childcare services. In addition, the event also discussed the rights of women to be employed in the field of work and situations of employment discrimination. The participants came up with recommendations both for improving the legal framework and for awareness and information actions regarding women’s rights.
